North Wilts RAYNET

Radio Amateurs Emergency Network

Who are we

The Radio Amateurs' Emergency Network (RAYNET) is a national body of radio amateurs who are pledged to provide communications in times of emergency and disaster. Formed after the East Coast Floods Disaster in 1953 and organised in local groups, the members of RAYNET operate, by special agreement with the DTI, on behalf of "User Services". This includes British Red Cross, St. John Ambulance,   Emergency Planning Officers, UK Police Forces, Fire, Ambulance, Health Authority, Government Departments or Public Utilities.

Members come form all occupations and usually have an agreement with their employers that they will be released for duty if required. The North Wiltshire RAYNET Group has been in existence since 1980, and assists with many events during the year overseeing the safety of participants in Wiltshire and providing a link with the emergency services. The Group's members train on a regular basis to professional standards. They are also equipped with up to date radio communications equipment and other supporting facilities.

The services of RAYNET are free, although should a donation be offered it will not be refused!
